Tonia was born in Malawi, where she grew up going to school in a dynamic, multi-cultural environment. She gained a diploma in nursery nursing, and, having worked in orphanages and special care baby units, she taught reception class children. Realising that she loved teaching, and having also met her husband in the UK, she decided to study for a teaching degree and work in this country. As a result of her diverse experience, her particular strengths are understanding and caring for children from all sorts of backgrounds and circumstances.

She has worked for Broadclyst Community Primary School, in both Reception and Year 1, since qualifying in 2005 and has now been appointed as reception teacher for Westclyst Community Primary School (WCPS). She is currently helping to plan and equip the new accommodation being built for the school’s first reception class.

Her aim is to settle the new children in to their new school, and make them aware of their own unique identity as the first-ever class of WCPS, while making sure that their parents are happy too, at this challenging time for them.

Tonia is also looking forward, in due course, to moving the children to the school’s permanent site in Westclyst, where they will become the oldest children in the school!
